Riots “Language of the unheard”

…I think America must see that riots do not develop out of thin air. Certain conditions continue to exist in our society which must be condemned as vigorously as we condemn riots. But in the final analysis, a riot is the language of the unheard. And what is it that America has failed to hear? It has failed to hear that the plight of the Negro poor has worsened over the last few years. It has failed to hear that the promises of freedom and justice have not been met. And it has failed to hear that large segments of white society are more concerned about tranquility and the status quo than about justice, equality, and humanity. And so in a real sense our nation’s summers of riots are caused by our nation’s winters of delay. And as long as America postpones justice, we stand in the position of having these recurrences of violence and riots over and over again. Social justice and progress are the absolute guarantors of riot prevention.

Martin Luther King Jr.

Yes,I am angry! Yes,I am frustrated. Yes,I am tired of seeing unarmed people of color being killed. But what we do with that anger and frustrations will determine the long and short term outcomes. Our anger must lead to restorative justice. Justice that is rooted in rehabilitation and reconciliation must be the end goal. We have to end this cycle and white america must play a major role in it.

The anger of African Americans and frustration of ” WOKE” Whites, Latinos and Hispanics and others are pouring out into the streets of Minnesota protesting. This anger and frustration is the result,I believe, due to the irresponsibility of our Country and Justice system to address systemic hatred towards people of color. The neglect of the government, law enforcement and leaders to cultivate equality, equity and justice causes the language of riots to speak. If you continue to delay, the voice of riots will get louder and louder.

I understand the anger of those that are using the language of rioting; however, I absolutely do not agree with it nor condone it. Anger is absolutely justifiable but violence is not. Anger at the irresponsibility that leads to being treated inhumanely like criminals instead of citizens is justifiable but violence is not. No one can convince me that violence is justifiable because it is not restorative. Our moral responsibilities to restore and be reconciled to one another is a role for all of humanity.

We must organize and strategic to address social issues and the larger audience in American. We must have the sympathy of the majority and the active participation as well. We must have an objective and active platform to talk and learn from each other. This is how I believe lasting change is going to come. White America, your part is necessary to help challenge the system before we can change it. We need your active participation.

I don’t have action steps in calling your local government; or supporting local organizations that address social injustice; or peacefully marching against injustice, which I encourage to do them all. After that, then what’s left?

My action steps for you is a personal conviction and consciousness of the issues at hand. For you to participate according to that conviction and your personal capacity.

  • Educate yourself on the issues at hand.
  • Look at the videos of unarmed people of color being killed, beaten, and terrorized.
  •  Call the name of those that were murdered unjustly.
  • Make a social media post in support of justice for people of color.
  • Be intentional about putting these issues before your children in a way they will understand the hatred that divides us.
  • Don’t be afraid to have conversations with people of color about racial issues.
  • Ask questions but by all means do something.
  • Do it in love.
  • Do it in faith.
  • Do it with the language of justice.

Social Injustice

“We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal…” Does America currently represent this?

What is social injustice?

Social Injustice: is when there are seen and unseen unfair practices within a society that promote inequality and hinder social advancement.

I went to the dentist some time ago because I had such a major pain in my tooth. I tried a lot of pain relievers that made me feel better momentarily but the pain continued to return. The dentist was able to identify the problem of the pain which required a root canal. After the root canal, I felt amazing and was able to eat properly again without the fear of the pain returning.

Our society today is a direct result of our country’s actions yesterday (past history). What we did and did not do yesterday directly affects or social atmosphere today. We have many pains that are the result of some deeper issues that need to be addressed. If not addressed, the pain will continue to surface over and over again. Our country is riddled with a very inconsistent history. It is inconsistent with what it Declares that it stands for but fail to actually live completely up to it. Who’s responsible for upholding these sacred truths? Who’s responsible for not completely living up to it? YOU ARE!! I AM!

There are many nonviolent movements happening across our country today. There is a movement that is happening today, that I believe is solely responsible for the birth of these other nonviolent movements and protests. That movement is the Social Injustice Movement. I finally realized who was responsible for this social injustice movement that was happening and has been happening for years in our country. A movement that promotes inequality and disharmony among those who live within its borders. ALL citizens within that society are responsible. We are responsible for allowing this system of inequality to begin and continue. Social Injustice affects the very society we live in. That society is the United States of America for me. “Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere” Martin Luther King Jr.  I am solely responsible for upholding and living out the truths that govern our society!! I am responsible for standing up against anything that keep those truths from being carried out.
